The great tragedy:
Christianity is about the gospel. "Gospel" is simply a word meaning "good news". What sort of news could be so great that it is called "The Gospel" not just "a gospel"? Is it good news about the economy? Well, sorta... Is it good news about a cure for cancer, Alzeihmer's or Heart Disease. Again the answer is "kinda." Is it good news that a solution has been found for poverty, hunger or crime? Well, yes, but maybe not in the way you think. You see, all of these things have a common root cause and The Gospel is the good News that there is a solution for this root cause. BUT... before we can discuss the solution we need to be clear about the problem. And that brings us to our point today.
The Bible is a great drama about God's plan to have a people for Himself! But it starts with a great tragedy. The first man and the first women rebelled against their benevolent creator. They disobeyed His clear command. They ate the forbidden fruit and every man and woman since has been inclined to evil. Hear the dreadful observation about man "the thoughts of the intents of their hearts were only evil all the time!" Not only that but nature was cursed and has been struggling and declining ever since, and the greatest evil of all, everyone dies! Where did all this come from? It started with the disobedience of Adam and Eve in the garden.
If you would be inclined to hear good news you must first come to grips with the bad news. All the great evils you see in the world around you come from sin and specifically from the first sin of our parents in the garden of Eden!
